The other common mistake created by management is when a specialist is delegated unaccompanied by responsibility. This can lead to an unproductive blame game, moving the buck in one department to some other or from one individual to another in case of any problem. The responsibility must be fixed and pinpointed clearly in advance.

When both authority and responsibility go hand in hand, it leads to effective delegation. The managers feel more involved with the company’s business, and there is an advanced of motivation to accomplish business objectives. A key element of delegation is accountability. A proper system of accountability and performance measurement must be placed in place to ensure that the managers take their obligations seriously. Without accountability is likelihood of complacency and insufficient motivation to perform there.

In an extremely competitive business environment, the business cannot afford to have slackness of attitude from the accountable managers who are vested with significant power and responsibility. The business organization can aim for a higher growth rate and multiply its size and range rapidly with a competent delegation of authority and responsibility to able employees. Cost competencies can be far better if the business increases in size and has higher sales amounts. This can lead to market leadership due to economies of scale for the business.
